Bio

Bonnie Hamlin has participated in numerous group and one person shows, taught art to children, given watercolour workshops, and workshops for teachers on teaching art. Bonnie  has given talks on art appreciation and drawing from ones imagination. She has worked part time at commercial freelance art, which included illustrating for children's authors and doing cartoons for rural newspapers. Bonnie now paints full time, working from her studio in the Manitoba Interlake Region.

Bonnie has painted all of her life beginning her deep understanding of colour theory when she learned to mix colours prior to learning the alphabet. Her knowledge of art is a life long learning experience as she continues to add to her library of hundreds of art books. She has also attended workshops with leading artists, taken Art appreciation classes at the University of British Columbia and attended the Forum Art Institute in Winnipeg.

Hamlin's extensive art knowledge base is evident in the depth, mood and movement in her paintings and the life she brings to her subjects.

Background on Bonnie

Bonnie and her husband Bob live on 80 acres northwest of Winnipeg, in the Interlake district of Manitoba. Her studio is the old farmhouse. There have been many times when her painting career has been put on hold. As a teenage and young adult she competed Internationally in gymnastics, and nationally in swimming and kayaking. Bonnie and her husband raised four daughters and managed and cared  for over 800 sheep and cattle (while her husband commuted to Winnipeg). During these years Bonnie also finished her University Degree and setup and ran a tourist center, gallery and tea house.  All of these activities (except for her family) are now in the past and Bonnie is working full time as a professional artist. Bonnie has found that the many experiences from her varied past along with meeting and interacting with such wonderful people have given her art a much broader base than she would have had if she had just focused on painting.
